handbrake adjustment

can any one give some advise regarding access to handbrake cable and adjustment of rear brakes

Above the diff drivers side you will find the adjuster, its just inline on the cable. Bugger to get at if its seized (all too common)...

I like to lay under the car and tighten it so that there is just some slack left at the levers it pulls on the calipers.

Best to make sure the handbrake lever is still mechanically secure, and lubricate all ends including said adjuster by slackening it fully, as well as copper slip the caliper handbrake bits, whilst you are at it.

Its best to jack the rear of the car up, remove the drivers side rear wheel and just above where the propshaft joins the diff is a plastic knurled adjuster. It may take a bit of time tightening and slackening this and checking the operation of the handbrake. You can adjust/tighten it too much, so there is little movement on the handbrake lever, its not an exact science you need to persevere to find the best compromise. I fitted new rear calipers, a new cable, and still had to mess about for a while getting it adjusted correctly. I press the foot pedal to actually apply the rear brakes, then still pressing it pull the handbrake on, works a treat. In the picture the adjuster is on the left where the diff and propshaft meet.

Before you start removing wheels etc give the advice from above a go,
press the foot pedal to actually apply the rear brakes, then still pressing it pull the handbrake on, works a treat. the brakes are self adjusting but sometimes they fail to work, pulling the hand brake on and off repeatedly with the foot brake full on may free it off and adjust it up.
